Tung Fort, also called Kathingad Fort, is an ancient hill fort located near the Pawna dam in Maharashtra, India. It's not actually in Khandala, but rather the Pune district, around 24 kilometers away from Lonavala.

Getting There:
The nearest major airport is Pune International Airport. From there, you can take a taxi or cab to the fort. Lonavala is also a convenient jumping-off point, with road access possible by car or motorbike.
The Trek:
Tung Fort is known for its scenic trek, though it can be challenging. The word "Kathin" in Marathi translates to "difficult," so be prepared for a steep climb on grassy slopes. The total trek is around 1.5 km and takes roughly an hour to reach the top. There's also a boat option from Pawna dam to the base village, Tungi, which cuts down on some of the legwork.
The Fort:
Despite its small size, Tung Fort offers stunning views of the surrounding area. From the summit, you can see the glittering Pawna Lake, the forts of Tikona, Visapur, and Lohagad. There are also ruins of a temple to explore at the top.
Things to Consider:
- The trek can be difficult, so wear proper shoes and clothing.
- There's no food or water available on the fort, so bring your own supplies.
- The best time to visit is during the cooler months, like winter and monsoon, when the weather is pleasant and the surroundings are lush green.
- Avoid visiting during the hottest parts of the summer.
