The Shahid Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium, also sometimes referred to as the Nava Raipur International Cricket Stadium, is a massive cricket stadium located in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India. It boasts a seating capacity of 65,000 spectators, making it the second-largest cricket stadium in India and the fourth-largest in the world!
Construction of the stadium began in 2008 and it was officially inaugurated in 2010. The stadium is named after Veer Narayan Singh, a landlord from Sonakhan who played a significant role in the 1857 Indian Rebellion.
Getting to the Stadium
The Shahid Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium is situated in Sector 3 of Naya Raipur, conveniently close to the Swami Vivekananda Airport. If you're flying in for a match, you can easily hail a cab or rickshaw to get to the stadium which is about 10 kilometers away. You can also pre-book a taxi online or through your hotel's concierge.
For those coming in by train, Raipur Junction is the nearest major railway station at a distance of 21 kilometers from the stadium. From here, you can hire a cab or take an auto-rickshaw to reach the stadium.
Alternatively, if you're looking for a more scenic route, consider taking a bus. Raipur has a well-connected bus network, and you can find buses to Naya Raipur from most parts of the city.
Things to do around the Stadium
While the main attraction is undoubtedly the cricket, there are a few other things you can do around the stadium if you have some time to spare. Here are a couple of suggestions:
