Mehrangarh Fort dominates Jodhpur from a rocky hill rising roughly 400 feet above the surrounding plain. Founded in the fifteenth century and expanded over several centuries, the complex brings together massive defensive walls, richly ornamented courtyards and palace rooms representing different periods of Rathore rule. Its ramparts also provide a memorable view across the blue-painted quarters of the old city.
The museum is central to the visit, with collections that illuminate Marwar's courtly life through arms and armour, textiles, miniature painting, decorative arts and royal objects. Architectural highlights include carved stone screens and ceremonial halls such as Phool Mahal.
