For the more adventurous, there's also the option to hike up the entire distance.

Built by the Shilahara dynasty in the 12th century, Kalyangad Fort has witnessed the rise and fall of several empires. It was later controlled by the Marathas under Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and subsequently by the Peshwas.
