The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a military and maritime history museum in New York City. It is located at Pier 86 at 46th Street, along the Hudson River, in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood on the West Side of Manhattan.
The museum is mostly composed of exhibits, aircraft, and spacecraft aboard the museum ship USS Intrepid, a World War II–era aircraft carrier. The Intrepid is a 900-foot vessel that served in World War II, the Cold War, and the Vietnam War. It was also a recovery vessel for the Gemini and Mercury space missions.
Visitors can explore the Intrepid's various decks, including the flight deck, hangar deck, and gallery deck. The flight deck is home to more than 30 aircraft, including the Space Shuttle Enterprise, a Concorde supersonic jet, and a Lockheed A-12 supersonic reconnaissance plane. The hangar deck contains a variety of interactive exhibits, including flight simulators and a 4D theater. The gallery deck features exhibits on the history of the Intrepid and the people who served on her.
In addition to the Intrepid, the museum also includes the submarine USS Growler and exhibits on Pier 86. The Growler is the only American guided missile submarine open to the public. Pier 86 features a variety of exhibits on the history of the Hudson River and the city of New York.
The Intrepid Museum is a great place to learn about military and maritime history. It is also a great place to see some amazing aircraft and spacecraft. The museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm. Admission is $36 for adults, $26 for children, and $33 for seniors.
