Hatisatra is a beautiful monastery in Sualkuchi, Assam, India. It is also one of the biggest monasteries in the village. Established by Kanu Bura Thakur, a saint from Nalanga, this monastery today attracts pilgrims in large numbers and is becoming a popular tourist attraction as well.
Hatisatra is dedicated to Lord Krishna and spreads the message of Vaishnavism culture. The monastery complex includes a Naamghar (prayer hall), Manikut (place to keep the asana), Hati (dwelling place for inmates) and Bharalghar (treasure house). Visitors can witness the monks engaged in their daily rituals and prayers.
Sualkuchi, also known as the "Manchester of Assam", is a small town famous for its handloom industry. The town is situated on the northern banks of the Brahmaputra River, about 35 km from Guwahati. Sualkuchi is a great place to experience Assamese culture and traditions. Here, you can visit workshops where weavers create beautiful Muga silk, Pat silk, Eri silk, and Endi cloth. You can also shop for these exquisite textiles as souvenirs.
