Bridal Veil Falls

Bridal Veil Falls, near Index, Washington, is a spectacular waterfall that cascades down the rugged east wall of Mount Index. It's a popular destination for hikers seeking a moderate challenge with rewarding views.

Getting There:

1. From Seattle: Take US-2 East towards Gold Bar.
2. Mount Index Road: About 7 miles east of Gold Bar, just before a large bridge over the Skykomish River, turn right onto Mount Index Road.
3. Lake Serene Trailhead: Follow Mount Index Road for about 0.4 miles, then take the right fork following the sign for "Lake Serene Trail 1068." Continue for another 500 feet to the large parking area.

The Hike:

The hike to Bridal Veil Falls is about 4 miles roundtrip with an elevation gain of 1,000 feet, making it a moderate challenge.

1. Lake Serene Trail: Start on the Lake Serene Trail, which begins as an old logging road.
2. Trail Junction: After about 1.5 miles, you'll reach a junction. Stay right to continue towards Bridal Veil Falls. The trail to Lake Serene forks left at this point.
3. Bridal Veil Falls Trail: The trail now climbs more steeply, with some rocky sections, switchbacks, and stairs.
4. Reaching the Falls: After about another half mile, you'll reach a fork in the trail. Go left to a viewpoint of the middle section of Bridal Veil Falls. Continue upstream (south) to see the upper section of the falls.

Trail Conditions:

• The trail is generally well-maintained but can be rocky and steep in sections.
• Expect some stairs and potentially slippery conditions, especially in wet weather.
• The trail is forested, providing shade for much of the hike.

Bridal Veil Falls:

• Bridal Veil Falls is a massive waterfall with multiple tiers, dropping over 1,300 feet in total.
• The trail viewpoints offer stunning perspectives of the middle and upper sections of the falls.
• The falls are most impressive in the spring and early summer when snowmelt increases the water flow.
