Monywa is a city in Myanmar's Sagaing Region, positioned on the eastern bank of the Chindwin River and used as a base for important Buddhist and archaeological sites. The best-known excursions include Thanboddhay Pagoda, distinguished by its dense arrangement of Buddha images, and the monumental standing and reclining figures at Bodhi Tataung. Across the river, the sandstone chambers and sculpture of the Pho Win Taung cave complex add another major heritage experience.
